Lovage has been grown for its aromatic fragrances, ornamental aspects and medicinal properties for a long time and its use can be traced back to ancient Rome. Lovage is known as a small spice crop. Information about the commercial production of essential oil from lovage was not available in the surveyed literature but the leaf of lovage as a condiment is sometimes produced in large commercial quantities.
