Antimonium tartrate has a tradition in homeopathy of being useful for the symptoms of noisy, wheezy coughs with copious mucous which may be difficult to clear. There may be a bluish tinge around the eyes and lips. The Ant tart state comes on when the vitality of the individual is weak; there is a weakness and prostration with a pale face, cold sweat, bluish lips and much secretion of mucous. Where Aconite, Belladonna, Bryonia and Ipecac show intense symptoms, Ant tart is the opposite with little fever, coldness and relaxation thus it may follow remedies like Ipecac and Bryonia. Ipecac has a coarse rattling in the first days of sickness whereas with Ant tart this coarse rattling comes after many days of sickness. Ant tart suits children with frequent bouts of bronchitis, from cold wet weather, rainstorms in autumn. No sooner do they get over one cold another one comes. The acute stage is not violent for them but they keep having these passive rattling colds. There is ulceration of mucous membranes everywhere.

Apis has traditionally been used for the symptomatic relief of bites and stings with heat, redness and swelling, hives, nettle rash, allergic eruptions and sore throats with classic stinging pains and sensation of swelling. As the heading suggests, this remedy is made from the honeybee. To understand the essence of this remedy we look at the effect that a bee sting has on us and its side-effects: a sudden oedematous swelling which is hot, burning and stinging and may cause the person to shriek. Apis is mainly used in home prescribing for treating bites and stings with redness, heat and swelling. Other conditions such as hives, nettle rash, allergic eruptions, sore throats and cystitis also respond well to Apis when indicated. Symptoms usually come on quickly and with intensity and there is an aggravation to heat and touch.
